No more instant previews from Google

By on April 27, 2013

After just 2 1/2 years Google has decided to drop it’s instant preview feature from search results due to low usage.  Google has decided to go with the more popular glyph icon caret drop down menu which features “Cached”, “Similar” & “Share”. With the Cached & Similar options disappearing when there are none.  Why anyone would want to share a link from the results before they have clicked on it is beyond me, but I am sure Google has plans for this to boost their Google + platform.

When questioned about the missing instant previews from Google, Jessica S (Google Employee) responded on the Google Product Forums with:

As we’ve streamlined the results page, we’ve had to remove certain features, such as Instant Previews.
Instant previews saw very low usage by our users, and we’ve decided to focus on streamlining the page to benefit more users.
