Most of us haven’t heard of it, but it may soon be a common name. The new (beta) search engine provides users with enhanced search results. A9.com, Inc is a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc, the popular e-retailer. Search results are derived in part from Google.com, but feature website contact information as well as and traffic statistics from Amazon’s other subsidiary, Alexa.com.

In addition to web search results, search queries are also met with “Amazon Search Inside the Book” results, which search Amazon.com texts.

“A9.com, Inc. is a separately-branded and operated subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc. The company was formed to develop advanced e-commerce search technology for the Amazon.com web site and other web sites,” said company spokesperson Alison Diboll.

Diboll declined to comment about future plans for A9.

A9’s search interface contains some innovative search tools, including a built in search history, and a user-configurable search page display.

Like Alexa.com, users must create an Amazon.com account in order to take advantage of the sites extra features.

Expect to see A9 become a rather familiar name in the near future.
