It wasn’t long ago some states started introducing ‘Do Not Call’ phone number lists for telemarketers. Then the feds jumped in a created their own. (https://www.donotcall.gov/) Now they’re onto email.
The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) will hold a press conference today to discuss the results of a study of the “feasibility of establishing a National Do Not Email registry.”
The conference will be held in the FTC Headquarters building in Washington, D.C.
FTC Chairman Timothy J. Muris and Howard Beales, Director of Bureau of Consumer Protection will be present.
Many industry leaders are skeptical over plans of a Do Not Email registry.
“Barring companies in the US from emailing certain people will only result in an overall increase of Spam, since most of it comes from offshore.” Said a server administrator who wished not to be named.
“On the same level” he added, “If companies sent ‘snail mail’ with the same content as their Spam email, they’d probably already be arrested.”
Spam may soon amount to half of all email messages in the United States. Not only is Spam an annoyance, but a weight on shrinking corporate budgets.
