Practical Yet Overlooked SEO Tactics

I’ve never been one to make sure I always add the ‘www’ prefix when requesting reciprocal links – and most of my images don’t have ALT tags. I break most rules of the SEO community, mostly because I don’t feel strongly enough in the advantages of SEO for the amount of time it will require me to invest.
SEO, in case you’re lost already, is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization. It’s a practice used in the web development community to attract more visitors from search engines.
Surely, there are hundreds of success stories resulting from extensive search engine optimization. One of which, is Internet-Marketing-Research. (There’s no need to provide the URL, they are easily found in Google).
Just look at a contest IMR is participating in. Query “nigritude ultramarine” in a major search engine. You’ll find it splashed over 77 pages of Google results. A term once defined as mere gibberish, its now a term that produces thousands of results when searched. Maybe even this article can get in on the action of nigritude ultramarine!
There are plenty of companies who’d love to help you make your website more search engine friendly, for a nominal fee of course …and that’s where w3’s Garontee saves the day.
I’ve always believed in practical and simple solutions to things. Google is a festive company, and in lieu of their festiveness, they replace their traditional logo with creative holiday logos on most major holidays. When users click on these logos, they are taken to a search for that holiday.
My solution is to tap into this resource. Pick an upcoming holiday, and make a section about it on your website. Obviously make sure it fits in with your website. Clearly a website about Frogs shouldn’t have an article about Christmas.
This might be something that is worth buying a new domain for. The object is, tap into the millions of users searching for the same item at the same time.
Make sure to select a holiday or holidays at least two or three months away, to ensure you get indexed. Initiate multiple link exchanges with other websites for that specific page. Make sure the page about the holiday is informative, and use lots of keywords relating to the holiday.
Some holidays to think about include thanksgiving, 4th of July, New Years, Artists birthdays, New Years, Halloween, Bastille Day, Fathers Day, Mothers Day, St Patrick’s Day, Valentines Day, Groundhogs Day, Earth Day, Canada Day, and other significant events.
The only downside to this strategy is too much traffic from Google. This was just the case when Google changed its logo to recognize the Birthday of Gaston Julia. The logo linked to an image search (http://www.google.com/images?q=julia+fractals) containing the related images and fractals. Subsequently, this page was taken down.
The only question remaining is, ‘Can you handle the power of Google?’.
