VeriSign’s Intelligent Messaging Network provides two-way messaging across virtually all popular mobile devices that support the capability, and offers various service options including short codes and global access numbers. Two-way messaging enables high-value services like actionable alerts and purchase transactions to be deployed on mobile devices around the world.
With the launch of SIA’s SMS Check-in, SIA’s frequent flyers (PPS Club and KrisFlyer members) and registered users of the SIA Web site can use their mobile phones to check-in for flights departing from 12 selected cities, including Auckland, Bandar Seri Bagawan, Bangkok, Chennai, Christchurch, Dhaka, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Penang, Singapore and Taipei.
“SIA is a wonderful example of a company that is using the power of intelligent infrastructure to drive new sources of revenue and new levels of customer satisfaction,” said Vernon Irvin, executive vice president of VeriSign Communications Services. “VeriSign has been working with Singapore International Airlines for several years to provide customers with mobile alert services, advising travelers of upgrades, schedule changes, and cancellations. VeriSign’s Intelligent Messaging Network services will now enable SIA to take the next step in mobile communications, by implementing highly reliable two-way messaging for their customers.”
To take advantage of this new service, customers need to register at the SIA Web site and make a one-time selection of the SMS Check-in notification service under “My Flight Alerts.” Following a set of easy-to-follow instructions, customers will receive a confirmation of the check-in and the confirmed seating number. At the airport, customers need only go to the “SMS / Internet Check-in” counter to pick up their boarding passes and check-in their baggage.
“Working with VeriSign allows us to offer the SMS Check-in service as well as providing flight and general information on SIA in the most convenient way using a mobile phone and PDA devices”, said Yap Kim Wah, Senior Vice President (Product and Services), Singapore Airlines. “We will continue to roll out relevant programs that fit with the lifestyles of our customers.”
