Most webmasters would agree that the ultimate goal in freelance development is to create a profitable and prominent website that serves visitors in a positive way. Meet Bryce Wilson, a developer who has conquered setbacks and who leaves thousands of visitors laughing and smiling every day.

Q: What is BryceWilson.net?
A: BryceWilson.net (http://www.brycewilson.net) was born when some friends from college wanted to see some of the videos that I had on my computer at home. With my old Pionex 500 Mhz, I uploaded 500 megabytes over three days to a hosting account at webmasters.com.

By the time the domain had spread across campus and webmasters.com had suspended my account for using up my monthly bandwidth allotment, I searched for a new host.

Four hosts and three months later I was tired of dealing with 16 year old kids that think they can run a hosting business so I went to ServerMatrix and purchased my first dedicated server in October of 2003.

Starting off as just a directory listing and a simple banner at the top of the page, my collection of videos quickly outgrew that. In December of 2003 I added the PaFileDB and categorized and described all of the videos that I had uploaded. While my first design was extremely inadequate for the task at hand it was functional. Along came Tom from Generations Design who did a great job of designing v.2 of BryceWilson.net and an even better job of the current design.

BryceWilson.net has evolved from a simple directory listing for fellow students and friends into a site that is visited by 40,000-80,000 people every month. BryceWilson.net is run by Bryce Wilson believe it or not. Born in southern Indiana but now residing in New York City while I attend the French Culinary Institute. This site now resides on a Total Control Server from ThePlanet.com which operates out of their new datacenter in Dallas, Texas.

Q: Where did you come up with the idea for BryceWilson.net?
A:
I just had funny videos and web space and the time to upload.

Q: How many unique visitors a month does BryceWilson.net get on average? Page views? Data Transfer used? How many videos downloaded? Videos total?
A: The traffic is so sporadic and ranges from 3,000 - 14,000 unique visitors per day. So far for the month of November I have racked up about 2.5 million page views and transferred around 1.6 Terabytes of videos. There are currently 1,145 videos in the database and around 400 in line waiting to be added to the db.

Q: What do you think has contributed the most to its success?
A: The content -- Without content a website is nothing, with it, it can be a success.
Q: Do you get assistance in running your site?
A:
Wouldn't that be nice...No, I run the entire site myself.

Q: Where do you see BryceWilson.net in 1 year?
A: Hopefully spread across several servers delivering videos to millions each month.

Q: 5 years?
A: If I am lucky, the same as my year goal

Q: 10 years?
A: SOLD! To Microsoft cause lord knows that they buy anything that is popular.

Q: Are there any people who have helped you the most with your site thus far?
A:
Tom from Generation Design, Steve from Rack 911, and Kris from Prohosted. All three of these guys have been great.

Q: Do you have any regrets in decisions you have made related to BW.net?
A:
Not really, give it time though and I will screw something up.

Q: Do you have any advice for webmasters who want to follow in your footsteps?
A:
Make the right friends that can help you out in a pinch because your visitors are unforgiving, especially when it comes to downtime.
