A game released in late November allowing players to replicate the assassination of the late JFK is creating uproar among Internet users, but the game’s developers insist they are only recreating history.
The game, released on the eve of the 41st anniversary of John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s murder, was created by a 10-man team in Scotland. The developers of the game hope to disprove any conspiracy theories surrounding the tragic assassination.
"We genuinely believe that if we get enough people participating we’ll be able to disprove once and for all any notion that someone else was involved in the assassination of President Kennedy," said Kirk Ewing, managing director of Traffic and the creator of JFK: Reloaded.
Software firm Traffic said in a press release they will be offering a monetary award up to $100,000 for players of the game who can most accurately recreate the shots fired by Lee Harvey Oswald
Despite the intentions of the game’s creators, many are sickened by the brutality in the game.
"Any game where you assassinate a well respected person is sick, in this case you assassinate the president of the US," said Ian Sanders, an avid gamer. "I don’t see any good coming out of it."
According to the game’s website, players can watch a demo of the game for free. If players want to actually simulate the shots that killed the late president, they need to unlock the game by paying $9.99.
Unlocking the game also gives players a chance to enter into a competition to win the grand prize.
"The same $9.99 gives you 10 entry tokens for the JFK Reloaded competition – somebody will definitely walk away with our top prize of up to $100,000 for being the closest match to the likely trajectories of Lee Harvey Oswald’s shots," said the game’s website.
