The move was prompted by the inspirational stories of disaster victims.
"I knew we had to do something. It’s the worst natural disaster in over 40 years, and those of us who are in the position to help are obligated to do so," said Dani Horowitz, the site's founder and namesake.
Horowitz hopes that the actions of DaniWeb (http://www.daniweb.com) will encourage others do to similar things to support the victims of the Tsunami.
"I hope our donation will encourage others in a similar position to participate in the relief effort in any way they can," said Horowitz.
The site, which was founded in early 2003, currently boasts over 27,000 members and has a post count of over 80,000 posts.
DaniWeb advertising currently includes many free features that allows advertisers to target their ads on the site to any specific geographical location on earth, as well as track the performance of their campaigns. Ads are served from a robust secondary ad server.
"Our advertising system has really proved to be very successful for the community and our advertisers," said Horowitz. "We’re one of the only communities that offers all of these useful features at no extra charge."
DaniWeb’s advertisers will have the added benefit of knowing they’re helping out the victims of the Tsunami by purchasing impressions on the site.
"Our advertisers can feel proud that in addition to promoting their own interests, they are helping out a great cause," said Horowitz.
