By submitting an article to W3Reports not only do you get the chance to be heard by thousands of readers but you get to expose your talents to prospective clients and build a stronger portfolio. Your article will contain a small bio about yourself with a link to your site.

If your article happens to be picked as a featured article you will recieve 2000 free banner impressions on W3Reports.

If you submit 10 or more articles you will be offered an option to have an account as a writer and recieve an online biography page.


Guidelines for Articles
    W3Reports Webmaster News Style Guide

    Purpose: The W3Reports news style guide is an approach to make news content delivered by W3Reports uniform in style, format, and word selection. Opinion stories and Press release stories are not necessarily bound by this style guide.

    Part 1 – Grammar

    Do capitalize
    • All proper nouns
    • The first letter of domain names, but only after the first dot. (Example: http://www.Google.com)
    • A person’s title, but only if used before the person’s name. (Example: President Jason Johnson, or Secretary Nancy Johnson)
    • The first letter of the names of all companies, unless special formatting is present. (Example: Google, eBay.)
    • If the company name is at the beginning of a sentence, always capitalize, regardless of special formatting. (Ebay released it’s…)
    • Capitalize common abbreviations and use no periods. (SMTP, SMS, IP)

    Do not capitalize
    • A personas title is used after their name. (Example: Jason Johnson is the president of Abc.com.
    • All letters in a domain name. (Example: http://www.Yourdomain.com)
    • The ‘www’ prefix. (Example: www.Google.com)
    • Don’t capitalize am or pm when used with time. (Example: 12am)

    Use of Names
    • Always use a person’s title whenever possible (Example: Fred Cole, president of Company-B.com said…)
    • If a company’s official name includes the ‘.com’ suffix, don’t include the ‘www’ prefix. (Example: SomeRandomHost.com, Inc released…)
    • If a person has a common nickname or screen name and their real name is available, place their nickname in quotes between their first and last name. (Eample: George “TheHostingGuru” Thompson)
    • A person’s title is only necessary on the first reference, after which you can use only their last name if you wish.
    • When listing names, use the following criteria
    a. If no other determining factor, use alphabetical order.
    b. If officers or positions, list in rank highest to lowest.
    c. If listing prizes, honors, awards or certificates, list highest to lowest.

    Numbers
    • Write out numbers 10 or lower.
    • Use numerals for 11 and higher.
    • Use a commas and decimals in numbers as needed. (Example: 1,000 clicks will cost…)
    • Spell out numbers, regardless of size, if at the beginning of a sentence, except years.

    Abbreviations
    • Spell out all acronyms on first reference, use abbreviations for future references, unless very common. (Example: Voice over Internet Protocol is popular… many people are looking for VoIP. Do not spell out CEO)
    • Abbreviate directional words only if used with a number. (Example: 35N)
    • Always spell out months, unless in headline.

    Punctuation
    • Avoid use of unnecessary contractions unless from a direct quote.
    • Do not use hyphens for items in an unnumbered list, use bullet points instead.

    Dates
    • Never use the word ‘on’ when describing a date. (Example: The CEOs will meet Monday.)

    Part 2 – Format

    All news submissions should have a headline, lead, quotes, and transitions.

    Headlines
    • Headlines should be clear in meaning, simple, and informative. Headlines can only be short phrases. Many users simply scan headlines for their news. (Example: Google releases aliens to take over world)

    Lead
    • Leads should be one sentence, and roughly 30-50 words in length.
    • Make sure you include the six elements of each news story: Who, What, Where, When, Why, How.
    • No quotes in the lead.

    Quotes
    • You may directly quote or paraphrase as much as you’d like provided the quotes are accurate.


    Part 3 – Submission Guidelines
    Your story may be rejected if you do not submit stories correctly. Please follow the below guidelines.

    Formatting
    • All formatting needs to be in HTML. This includes: bullet points, numbered lists, italics, bold, underline, line breaks, etc.
    • Do not format font face or font size. Font face and font size is covered by our cascading style sheet for all articles.

    Links
    • Active links should be in HTML in all submissions.
    • All links should have the “target” attribute within the “a” tag. (Example: target=”blank”)

    File Type
    • All submissions need to be in HTML. Please send in .html files only. No .doc or other non-html formats.

Please note that your submissions are appreciated but not all articles will be accepted. All articles will be reviewed and published within 1-24 hours of submission. You will not be contacted if your article is published
