Facebook Newest Datacenter – Iowa

Facebook the worlds largest social networking site, announced Monday that it will be building a new data center in Altoona, Iowa. This will be Facebook’s 4th data center adding to their current list of data centers currently located in Oregon, North Carolina, and Sweden.

The decision to build in Iowa was said to have an abundance of wind generate power available. In their press release they stated:

In the coming years, as our service continues to grow and people share and connect in more ways, we need to make sure that our technical infrastructure also continues to scale. Our goal is not just to deliver you a fast, reliable experience on Facebook every day – we also want to help make connectivity a universal opportunity. Our data centers are essential for making that happen.”

Construction is set to begin this Summer and expected to be complete and operational later next year.
